2004 saw the opening of the University of Derby at the former Royal Devonshire Hospital in Buxton. This University complex sits in the centre of the town only 200 metres from the Portland Hotel. The University is confident in attracting up to 2000 students to the town and the hotel is ideally located for students attending interviews, visiting parents and academics working at the University.
